West Austin Rotary supports Adopt-a-School enriching Wooldridge
Elementary in Austin with mentoring, books, and financial
aid. This Austin Independent School District campus is challenged
with a large number of "at risk" children lacking
both physical and parental resources to assure their optimum
development. West Austin Rotary actively assists these students
supplementing the dedicated faculty and staff. Our personal
involvement brightens the children's days and enriches ours.
We hold a regular Rotary meeting at the school each year;
it is a highlight for our membership. Our traveling Rotarians
bring banners from clubs all over the world and present them
to the school at this annual meeting. The Children mount them
on large section of wall and study the locations, customs,
and economics of our far flung contacts.
We provide various scholarships to students at all levels
and support Rotary Youth Leadership
Awards (RYLA) recognizing outstanding students. West
Austin Rotary works with the many clubs of District 5870 inviting
high school leaders to attend a conference on leadership held
each year.
Shots for Tots calls on West
Austin Rotary to provide people power for annual inoculation
drives protecting our young people. We help with scheduling,
check in, check out, and all the logistics of this event.
West Austin Rotary Foundation
provides financial support for projects and organizations
in central Texas. We organized this Internal Revenue Code
section 501(c)(3) charitable foundation a number enabling
us to support a number of Central Texas organizations. The
Foundation's Board reviews applications for grants and actively
follows the success our resources bring. We support sports
programs for youth providing uniforms and other athletic gear
for children otherwise unable to participate. We've supported
refugees from Kosovo and children in foster care from abused
homes. Numerous charitable agencies that specialize in needs
of children receive our grants.
